Cabinet gives nod to ordinance on Triple Talaq
Since the Muslim ladies (Protection of Rights on Marriage)
Bill couldn't get Rajya Sabha approval, the recent ordinance was issued. The
bill can lapse on June 3 with the dissolution of the current Lok Sabha.
Paving the approach for the triple talaq ordinance to return
into force for the third time in but one year, the Union cupboard on Tuesday
gave its nod to re-promulgate the legislation. The ordinance makes the follow

that it provides justice and equality to Muslim ladies.
When asked on the
necessity by the govt. to clear the ordinance weeks earlier than the Lok Sabha
elections, Jaitley same discussions on the legislation had been “physically
prevented” in Parliament.
“It (discussion) has
not been prevented as a result of numbers were against it… Indian democracy
can't be helpless. Extraordinary things do necessitate such steps,” he said.
the govt. has enclosed bound safeguards within the ordinance, like adding a
provision of bail for the defendant before trial.
